Department SummaryInfrastructure Services provides flexible,
reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services
(network services, platform services, data center operations and
management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity,
productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure services
strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the
network, and reducing downtime.Network and Engineering Services
manages the engineering and operations of the network
infrastructure (e.g., wired/WAN, wireless, security/firewall)
required to offer network connectivity, such as network cabling,
routers, and firewalls. This includes connecting devices (e.g.,
Internet of Things devices) to the network, network access
management, securing access to networks, and appropriate
authentication (e.g., network registration systems, VPN, and
NAC).Position SummaryThe Senior Network Engineer, Wireless/Radio
will manage the design, implementation, optimization,
administration, and technical documentation of all wireless
services and radio systems. The Senior Wireless/Radio Network
Engineer will lead the resolution of complex technical issues in a
timely manner while delivering best-in-class wireless/radio service
support across campus. This role will manage and provide day-to-day
network engineering and technical support for wireless network
infrastructure to ensure that systems are operating at peak
efficiency with little to no downtime.The Senior Wireless/Radio
Network Engineer will ensure that all networking activities are
aligned to industry best practices as well as ITS and university
policies, processes, and procedures. This role will provide
technical and training assistance to other ITS teams. The Senior
Network Engineer, Wireless/Radio will positively impact UCLA's
operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is
operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the
university's academic mission. This team member will advance the
University's mission by delivering exceptional information
technology services comprehensively and consistently across
faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision

benefits.Qualifications
- Five years experience working in one or more of the following
fields: network services, information technology or network
operations, or a related field. (Required)
- Significant experience in information technology, network
engineering, or wireless networks. (Required)
- Significant experience troubleshooting wireless networks,
including client experience testing, wireless packet analysis, etc.
(Required)
- Significant experience with 802.11 standards, RF design and
engineering, and managing radio systems. (Required)
- Significant experience designing controller clustering,
failover methods and caveats, group management, AP modes of
operation, patching, RF management, etc. (Required)
- Significant experience with wireless optimizations, including
AP placement, ideal signal levels, optimized roaming, spectrum
selection, channel tuning, cell optimization, QoS, etc.

- Seven or more years experience working in one or more of the
following fields: network services, information technology or
network operations. (Preferred)
- Experience in complex higher education environments, serving
academic and administrative functions of a large public university.
(Preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN and network protocols. Advanced
knowledge of monitoring tools and commands to ensure the quick
resolution of issues. (Required)
- Expert knowledge of various radio equipment types, including
base stations, repeaters, mobile radios, and associated test
equipment and strong understanding of different communication
systems. (Required)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to
communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of
colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to
audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Bachelor's Degree in one or more of the following fields:
computer science, engineering, computer information systems, or a
related field, or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional certification (CCNP) or
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certifications

- CompTIA Network+ Certification or Cisco Certified Network
